Will savings and property prevent me from getting SSD/SSI Benefits?

The simple answer to this question is it depends on whether your applying to Social Security Disability or SSI or Supplemental Security Income Benefits. If your applying for Social Security Disability Benefits the answer is simple. How much money you have or your spouse has or property none of that matters, its like the old age Social Security Program. All you have to do is prove your disabled. Now for SSI there are many different income / asset rules concerning SSI and whether or not you are eligible that are well beyond the scope of this conversation. I will just point out the most basic rule which is that you cannot as an individual have more two thousand dollars in savings or a couple cannot have more then three thousands in saving and still be eligible for SSI Benefits
