Once you decide to apply for social security benefits you can expect several stages in the process. The first stage is the initial application for benefits. You can apply at your local SSA office, over the phone, online, or through an experienced Social Security Disability Attorney. Once your application is submitted it will be routed to the state Disability Determination Office. If they approve your claim, it will go back to your local SSA office and your payment will be processed and you will be sent a check. If the SSA denies your initial application for benefits you will have to start the appeal process if you want to continue your case. The first appeal is called Reconsideration Appeal and is done through the local SSA office, and then sent back to the state Disability Determination Office. They will either approve, and you’ll receive a payment or they will deny the appeal.

If the first appeal is denied then you will have to decide if you want to continue. The next step in the appeal process is to file an Application of a Hearing and will put your claim in the hands of a Social Security Judge. This stage can get complicated and there may be a series of hearings depending how far you want to take your appeal. While it is rare, there are a few cases each year that are appealed all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. This is why many people who apply for SSI/SSD benefits work with a qualified disability social security lawyer. Disability lawyers are experienced with all stages of the application process and can handle every step and help you get approved for SSI/SSD benefits. Roseburg, Oregon Disability Benefits
The city that is now Roseburg was once called Deer Creek because it was located at the spot where the Deer Creek met the South Umpqua River. The region has a very nice climate, beautiful scenery and abundant natural resources, making it a popular place for many years before it was incorporated as a town. Native American nations lived among the fruit groves and pulled trout and salmon from the nearby river and hunted for game in the forest. These abundant resources made the region attractive to eastern settlers who began to move in during the 1800s. In the early days Roseburg was a trading post and a spot for travelers on the old Oregon and California Trail to make a brief stop. In 1851 a water powered gristmill was built and this spurred new growth in the town, bringing in all kinds of tradesmen and merchants. Many of the new residents built farms and grew a variety of crops, including grains. Ranchers set up spreads with pastures for cattle and brought in other livestock including sheep, hogs, and horses.

The railroad arrived in 1872 and connected Roseburg with Portland, increasing the market for local farmers and merchants. A roundhouse was built and this created more jobs for the area residents. One of the greatest resources the region had is in the forests and the timber they provide, earning Roseburg the title of “Timber Capital of the World”. The number of sawmills in Roseburg increased during the mid 20th century, mostly harvesting and processing Douglas Fir lumber. Today Roseburg is a great mix of agricultural pursuits and business. The city has built several industrial parks, bringing in a variety of businesses and professional services.  The farms and vineyards are still flourishing. The natural beauty of the region attracts many visitors, which support the various businesses involved in the hospitality trades. However, some residents who have worked and supported the community for years are now suffering from a disability that prevents them from working. If you are unable to work, there are social security attorneys in Roseburg and nearby communities like Dillard, Myrtle Creek, and Umpqua who can help you file a SSDI application and get approved for benefits.
